God makes all things new. (Revelation 21:5)
Man's "conservative" impulse is to save what
we think is good from our past. For those who've been "...rescued...from the domain of darkness, and transferred...to the kingdom of His beloved Son..." (Colossians 1:13), it's hard to see what
good there is to carry into our new life.
The "conservative" impulse can be a means of opposing God. The Pharisees of Jesus' time are a prime example.
